About Mind-Body Syndromes

Mind-Body Syndromes also known as Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS), where brought to light by the late Dr. John Sarno who wrote the New York Times best selling book- Healing Back Pain. Now modern science has learned that while these symptoms are very real, they are coming from your brain and nervous system. In other words they are neuroplastic and you can retrain your brain. Basically, using mind-body techniques and tools, you can reverse chronic pain conditions and other nervous system syndromes like POTS & Chronic Fatigue.

How Our Approach For Chronic Pain/ Mind-Body Syndromes is Different

We blend cognitive, experiential, and somatic therapies to support you on your healing journey. To begin, we usually start with Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT). PRT uses cognitive and somatic tools to teach your brain that it can let go of the symptoms. We use the science of neuroplasticity and memory reconsolidation to rewire your brain. Additionally, we use Emotion Awareness and Expression Therapy created by Dr. Howard Schubiner which supports people in releasing suppressed emotions. Many people with these syndromes learned from childhood to shove sadness, anger, and other core emotions. This can very hard on the nervous system which can contribute to symptoms. Other therapies we use for chronic pain and illness might be – Coherence Therapy, Internal Family Systems, or trauma modalities like EMDR.
