Coherence Therapy Training

Curious about Coherence Therapy Training?

Coherence Therapy, created by Bruce Ecker and Laurel Hulley, is an experiential psychotherapy that is specifically crafted to facilitate memory reconsolidation. Memory reconsolidation is the brains built in process and mechanism for revising what was previously learned and now held in memory. Basically, memory reconsolidation is the science of transformational change.

If you are a therapist or coach, Coherence Therapy training will deepen your ability to facilitate lasting transformational change.

Coherence Therapy involves these important concepts:

  • Symptom Coherence
  • Memory Reconsolidation & The Therapeutic Reconsolidation Process (TRP)
  • Constructivism
  • Discovery techniques
  • Integration
  • Transformation

FAQ

What's the difference between Coherence Therapy and Internal Family Systems?

Coherence Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) are similar in that that are both non-pathologizing therapies. This means they view a “symptom” like depression, anxiety, substance abuse, as an adaptive mechanism of the brain that serves an important purpose. Where the therapies differ is that IFS only uses “parts language”. For example- “A part of me feels tired but another part of me feels scared”. IFS is also a semi protocoled therapy in it’s structuring and assumes that when you unburden the “exiles” the client’s problems will go away. Unfortunity this isn’t always the case. Coherence Therapy uses many experiential techniques, parts work being one of them. Coherence Therapy is not formulaic like many therapies are. It’s based on principles that follow the theraputic reconsolidation process (TRP), the process that facilitates memory reconsolidation- transformational change.

How do I get certified in Coherence Therapy?

Getting certified in Coherence Therapy is based on competancy. Generally, you would start with an introductory training and then do a Dyad Practicum. The Dyad is where you practice CT with another therapist and a trainer watching. Finally, you submit a recored session for review. The Coherence Psychology Institute will track your consultations with certified trainers and training activities, but overall, certification lies in competancy in the model. Is Coherence Therapy only helpful for trauma?

No. While Coherence Therapy is highly effective for developmental trauma, it can also be applied to anxiety, depression, perfectionism, chronic pain, attachment difficulties, relationship patterns, self-criticism, and many other symptoms rooted in emotional learning.
